WORLD LANGUAGE

Spanish

Our Lady of Peace Catholic School recognizes that, with the global society we are in, it is key that students have the opportunity to be exposed to a new language and to different cultures.

Students receive instruction in the target language, Spanish, expand vocabulary knowledge, understand new grammar concepts and make comparisons between their native language and the world language.

BEST PRACTICE IN TEACHING A WORLD LANGUAGE

The teacher who teaches a world language strives to increase the use of best practices in teaching Spanish through:

  • A positive and supportive environment that promotes the learning of the target language
  • Introduction of vocabulary and grammar through authentic, meaningful context
  • Cultural information as part of the lesson for each week
  • Written and oral assessments that are on-going, formal and informal
  • Continuous opportunities for students to practice speaking the target language
